Apple River Run Table Top

I purchased this piece of Apple wood on a whim in August 2019, the beautiful colour and grain caught my eye. I knew I would be able to produce either a great river run table or a long kitchen breakfast bar.

So I began the work on my apple river run table top

In the middle of January 2020 the wood had dried out sufficiently for me to start work on it

The below pictures of of the top and bottom of the project before i started doing any work to them

I started by completely removing all the bark and detritus from the surface.

Below left is what the project looked like once all the bark had been removed.

I then sanded the entire piece with 60 grit sand paper on my orbital sander, the results can be seen below.

The beautiful grain within the light wood is captured in the below middle photo

The wonderful colours within the piece is captured in the below right photo.

I then proceeded to sand the entire piece through to 240 grit to remove any of the minor imperfections in the wood, this also brings out the natural colours and grain.

Apple River Run Table Top or breakfast bar were still options but I have decided to try and have the wood sliced in half down the length of the wood. Stay posted for follow on blog.
